Famous People of the Paris Area

Mary Margaret McBride

Paris is the hometown of the late Mary Margaret McBride, one of Missouri's best-known author and radio and television personalities during the 1920 -1930s.  A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1919, she began broadcasting for WOR (New York) in 1934 and attracted millions of listeners, mostly women, with her personal confessions and interviews with noted personalities.  She also wrote for such magazines as Cosmopolitan, Saturday Evening Post and Good Housekeeping, has had a newspaper column for Associated Press and wrote numerous books including How Dear To My Heart (1940).  She died April 7, 1976.

Gordon Snidow

Internationally acclaimed artist Gordon Snidow was born in Paris.  His works can be found in the county's historical society's museum at the courthouse.  He is an Emeritus Member of the Cowboy Artists of America
