Founders Cemetery

Located at the north edge of downtown Paris, Missouri, just across the railroad tracks on Highway 24.

The first cemetery established at Paris was just north of the railroad tracks.  There are approximately 200 graves in it that are still marked by headstones.  Many names famous in Monroe County History are to be found in this old burial place.  Inscriptions in many instances are so dimmed with age and weathering that they are illegible.  In some instances two dates are given, the first being that of birth and last of death.  In others, where there is only one figure this refers to death date.  On still others, no date is readable.  On a few stones it was impossible to read even the names.  Many of the old pioneers have been removed to the new cemetery at Walnut Grove just a short distance north on Hwy. 24.  Few of the people buried in the old cemetery a century or more ago, have descendants who remember them.     Monroe County Appeal.

This quaint old stone is one serving the three wives of Daniel W. Dulany, as the inscription on the base says:

Old time residents of Paris cannot remember anyone by the name of Daniel W. Dulany.  His tombstone is not in the cemetery.
