Grow Native! encourages use of natives grasses and plants to improve conservation practices in private and land and your own backyard! Adds beauty and reduces labor, as requires less fertilizer and water. Seminars will offer advice on using native plants, and vendors will be available as well. Large farmer’s market as well!

Fall Classic Turkey Calling Contest
NWTF Sanctioned Turkey Calling & Owl Hooting Contest. Will be held in the Former Paris Intermediate School Building beginning at 2:00 pm. First prize 17 & over, $500.00 and trophy. Sponsored by Union Covered Bridge Gobblers. Call Phillip Shatzer at 660-327-4630 for more information.

Old West Bank Robbery
Experience Paris in an old west setting and the humorous calamities of crazy cowboys who try to rob the town banks.  Live action & music, horses, horse-drawn vehicles, gun-fire.  Washington street will become the old wild-west in this sure to please event!  Crowd controlled. Native Plant Seminars to be held Paris

Seminars on the use of native plants will be held in Paris on October 99 at the Monroe County Health Department, in conjunction with the Fall-in-to Paris Celebration sponsored by Let's Grow Monroe.  These seminars will give landowners and other plant enthusiasts a chance to learn about ways to implement native plants on their own property for beautification, wildlife habitat improvement and better livestock grazing.  The seminars are free and anyone with interest in this subject is welcome to attend.  In addition a number of native plant vendors will be on hand in the Farmer's Market area with native plants to sell.

The seminar schedule is as follows:

10:00am

Native Plants, Farm Bills and Wildlife Habitat Improvement
Jamie Ebbsmeyer and and Andrea King
Jamie is the local Private Lands Conservationist for the MDC and Andrea is a Resource Conservationist for the NRCS.  Their seminar will discuss farm bills that assist landowners in establishing native plants for wildlife habitat improvement.  The Bobwhite Quail Initiative will also be discussed.

The Grow Native! Program  Barbara Fairchild
Barbara is communication specialist for the Grow Native! Program sponsored jointly by the MDC and the USDA.  Her seminar will discuss ways to implement native plants on your own property, advantages of using native plants, and how to obtain information about native plants.

Improving Wildlife Habitat on Your Farm  Suzanne Baxter
Suzanne operates a wildlife habitat consultation service out of Baxter Farms in Palmyra.  Her seminar will give tips on how to improve wildlife habitat on your farm and increase numbers of quail, turkey, and deer.

Management Considerations for Reestablishing Native plants  Bill Dreyer
Bill operates a consultation service called Native Habitat Restoration in Montgomery City.  His work includes restoring historical native plant communities.  His seminar will include tips on how to reestablish native plants on your farm for better range management, and livestock grazing.
